XLR8 Dance Competition is an exciting new dance competition that showcases dancers from around Australia. We strive to create a positive and inclusive environment for all dancers to showcase their skills and express themselves through dance.

Dance Styles: We welcome all dance styles, Jazz, Broadway Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, Acrobatics, and Improvisation. Our goal is to celebrate the diversity and creativity of the dance community.

Age Groups: We have age categories for solo’s and duo/trio and group performances. These categories include:

• Micro: 4 and under

• Mini: 5-6 years

• Petite: 7-8 years

• Junior: 9-10 years

• Pre-teen 11-12 years

• Teen: 13 -14 years

• Senior: 15 and 16 years

• Open 17 years and over

Categories:

Newcomer: Any dancers who have not received 1st place in a newcomer category of 4 or more at XLR8 Dance Competition.

Title Holder: Are any dancers who have received 1st place in a Newcomer section of 4 or more, and or who have received 1st, in an unclassified section at XLR8 Dance Competition

Competition Passes: All participants must purchase a competition pass to enter the event which can be done online with your registration.

Check-In: All solo, duo/trio and improvisation dancers must check in at the registration desk at least 30 minutes before their scheduled performance time.

Awards: We recognize the top performers in each age category with awards, including trophies, medals, and cash prizes. We also give out special awards for outstanding choreography, technique, sportsmanship, costume and performance.

Music: All music must be edited to a suitable length and must not contain any profanity or offensive language. The sound technician will play the music provided by the dancers, and all music must be submitted before commencement of the competition.

Time Limits:

Solos 2:30max

Duo/Trio 2:30 Max

Dance 4 Your Life: 90 seconds max

Troupes: 5 mins Max

Props: Props are allowed, but dancers must provide their own props and set up and clean up within the allotted time. All props must be approved by the XLR8 Dance Competition staff.

Entry Fees: Entry fees vary depending on the number of performances and categories entered. Fees are non-refundable and must be paid in advance. There is no fee for spectators. Each solo can only be performed once. Dance 4 Your Life routines must not be repeated routines.

Solo’s: $45

Duo/Trio $45 per routine

Improvisation: $15

Dance 4 Your Life: $50

Troupes: $10 per performer

Registration Fee: $35

Apra Fee: $2 per routine

Admin Fee $4.50 booking Fee

Code of Conduct: We expect all participants, including dancers, coaches, and spectators, to behave in a respectful and professional manner. Any behavior deemed inappropriate by XLR8 Dance Competition staff will result in disqualification and removal from the event.

Dance 4 Your Life: A Battle of genres for the top title. Each dancer can perform a maximum of 90 seconds in any style. Be prepared to go all out and show the judges what you are made of!
